A major discovery was made in Well Luntan 1 in Tarim Basin, with daily crude oil exceeding 100 tons.
CCTV News:The reporter learned from China Petroleum yesterday (19th) that the Tarim Basin is the first deep well on land in Asia — — The exploration of Luntan No.1 well has made a great discovery, and the daily output of crude oil exceeds 100 tons, which indicates an important breakthrough in oil and gas exploration technology of ultra-deep wells in China.
Well Luntan 1 is located in Kuqa City, Xinjiang, with a depth of 8882 meters, which is the first deep well on land in Asia. Since drilling started on June 28, 2018, seven Asian drilling records have been created. After testing, the daily output of crude oil exceeds 100 tons and natural gas is 50,000 cubic meters, which is more than 60 times of the average daily output of a single well in China. The exploration area of oil and gas formation in Luntan 1 well is 23,000 square kilometers, and the predicted oil and gas resources reach 3 billion tons.
Yang Xuewen, General Manager of PetroChina Tarim Oilfield Company:Today, the daily output of crude oil is 133.5 cubic meters (equivalent to 111.7 tons). It is the first time in the history of oil exploration and development in the world that liquid petroleum hydrocarbons can be found in the Tarim Basin below 8,200 meters. The discovery of this well has expanded the new situation of Tarim exploration.
It is of great significance to March deep into the earth and expand deep oil and gas resources to build a solid resource base for China’s energy security. Well Luntan-1 obtained industrial oil gas flow in the 8200m ultra-deep layer, which broke the "dead line" of oil exploration in the 8000m ultra-deep layer.
Wang Chunsheng, Deputy Manager of Exploration Division of Tarim Oilfield of PetroChina:The successful drilling of the first deep well in Asia indicates that the drilling technology of ultra-deep well in Tarim has reached the advanced level in the world, and the matching of drilling rig equipment, drilling tools and drilling fluid have been completely localized, indicating that we have the drilling capability of 10,000-meter ultra-deep well.
Tarim Basin is the deepest oil and gas enrichment area in China. At present, more than 20 large oil-bearing structures have been discovered in Tarim Oilfield below 8000 meters.
Tarim Oilfield, where Well Luntan 1 is located, is the third largest onshore oil and gas field in China and one of the main gas sources of West-East Gas Transmission. In 2019, the equivalent of oil and gas production exceeded 28 million tons, a net increase of 1.78 million tons compared with 2018, the largest increase in recent years. At present, the daily production of natural gas in Tarim Oilfield exceeds 86 million cubic meters, of which about 15 million cubic meters are supplied to southern Xinjiang every day, ensuring that more than 4 million people of all ethnic groups around Tarim Basin spend the winter warmly.
